I choose this topic(Atomic bombs) because it is one of the main things that contributed to the stop of the war. This is a very interesting topic because of what it caused and because of what it stopped, its a very important part of our history that should still be talked about.
The atomic bombs were dropped with the order from US President, Harry Truman on August 6th 1945, at approximately 8:15 A.M. Bombs were being developed in the early months of 1952. On July 16th they had their first trial of using the bombs in the New Mexico Desert, the test was successful. They knew that their use of the bombs could cause a lot of casualties, but they also knew it was the best way to force Japan to surrender and to stop the war. The effects of the bomb were truly devastating. Ones who did not die in the bombing, suffered from injuries and were just waiting to die for up to 4 months, coughing up blood and urinating blood was just a sign that death was coming soon.
A new branch of the Army's Corp of Engineers, was established to enforce work on military uses of uranium. On December 2, 1942, the first self-sustaining chain reacting pile was successfully operated at the university of Chicago by Enrico Fermi. Methods of purifying materials to be used were developed. Finally, in July, 1945, a practical atomic bomb was completed. On July 16, 1945, the first test was exploded at Alamogordo, New Mexico.
